Breast Cancer Awareness month

I have been following a fun & fabulous new blog, Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge, for some time but things haven't worked out for me to enter any of their challenges yet.  However, having lost my mother to breast cancer at a very young age, I have a personal goal to post at least one project to support awareness each October and as soon as I saw this sketch I began thinking of ways to use it for my pink ribbon card.  So here's the sketch followed by my take and PLEASE, if you haven't scheduled your mammogram this year, challenge yourself to do so!  :-)
details:  As usual, all projects used are from Close To My Heart although several are discontinued.  The base and border for the center panel are Hollyhock CS, the pink lacy patterned paper is from the discontinued "Lucy" kit.  The middle layer was sponged with Baby Pink on white CS and stamped in Cotton Candy with one of the pieces from the "Save the Date" set; the 'live, laugh, love' sentiment is from the "Love Life" stamp set and the ribbon was stamped in Cotton Candy using the "Always Remember" stamp set.  The sentiment  inside the card was stamped in Cotton Candy again using the retired set "Rustic Alphabet."

a stamping project you may not have considered...

Since this isn't the usual papercrafting project and the challenge this week at Paper Playtime is "Anything Goes," I thought this would be a good project to share.

So my daughter and I are signed up to do our first Relay for Life and I purchased some luminaries to decorate.  I was inspired to use my Close To My Heart stamping products on them and I was so impressed with how they turned out and how quickly and easily they came together.  As it turns out, the very day I had set aside to make the luminaries, someone very dear to my family was receiving a diagnosis so I left my stamps set up on the blocks, made a phone call to our team's organizer, and got some more  luminaries delivered right to my door and we're still making them so our loved one will have a big show of support right from day one!

Here's a tip, though, use the liner that's used as backing in your stamp packages and slip it inside the bag so the folds and extra layers of the bag won't throw your stamped images off.  For this project I used the discontinued "Always Remember" and "Tiny Typewrite" stamps in Pear along with the Bohemian alphabet in Cotton Candy.

Happy (and heartfelt) crafting Annette

Heart2Heart: Always Remember

Before I get to  the details of this card, I want to take a moment to honor and remember my mother, Diane, who passed away in 1984 from a rare form of breast cancer. She was only 35 years old and left behind a husband, 17 year old daughter (that was me), 15 and 5-year old sons, and a 17-day old baby girl as well as parents, siblings, and numerous other family members and friends. She was smart, funny, brave, a little off beat, loved scary movies and books but got genuinely scared by them, she was great with children and she is still missed every day. If you haven't had a mammogram yet this year, I urge you to do so and also to encourage your friends to do the same. Until we find a cure, early detection is our best weapon.

card details:  This week's challenge at Heart2Heart is a technique challenge of inking a stamp with one color and then rolling the edges in another color before applying the image to paper.  I chose a very basic, clean and simple card to try this approach and I'm hoping the color combination is not too subtle, but I used Blush for my base color on the retired Always Remember stamp set with Hollyhock as my edge color.  I cut the card shape at 5" height using the Art Philosophy cartridge, sponged Baby Pink on the edges, and I used Blush ink on the A Typeface alpha (A1117) and Hollyhock  on the "find the cure" sentiment which is also part of the Always Remember set.

Happy crafting!
